Instructions to any future socialist government WISHING TO ABOLISH CHRISTMAS
By Michael Mackenzie
A Co-Production with Centaur Theatre
With the collapse of Lehman Brothers began the final exposure of a world of staggering complexity held together with bluster, bravado, arcane mathematics and, often, bare-faced lies.
As one of the world’s financial giants fell to its knees, a hedge fund manager sits in his Toronto office waiting for the overnight lending rates to arrive. The elevator below noiselessly ascends to his office on the top floor carrying a brilliant but troubled young woman responsible for the company’s staggering success. She is determined to see him again. She needs to understand what happened between the two of them. And most importantly she is looking for a reason, any reason, not to kill him.
Internationally celebrated playwright Michael Mackenzie - author of The Baroness and the Pig and last season’s Geometry in Venice – returns to Crow’s Theatre with an electric two-hander that examines the shifting and suspect forces behind the the global financial system.
