THE COUNTRY MAKES ITS CANADIAN DEBUT

Crow's Theatre is thrilled to be working with one of Calgary's most innovative companies to present the Canadian Premiere of The Country. Martin Crimp's searing psychological drama opened Friday at Theatre Junction GRAND in Calgary.

The Country is a thrilling, suggestive chamber piece that offers an unblinking account of the dark void beneath the veneer of the humdrum. When a married couple's attempt to escape a dark past is disrupted one evening by a strange young woman, a past of sex, drugs and deception seeps into their idyllic rural life.

Chris Abraham directs a cast that includes Theatre Junction Artistic Director Mark Lawes, along with Fiona Byrne and Raphaele Thiriet.

On Stage November 19 - 28, 2009 at Theatre Junction GRAND (Calgary)

Geometry in Venice

The new year kicks off with Writer in Residence Michael Mackenzie's seminal work Geometry in Venice. Crow's Theatre in association with Montreal's Segal Centre will bring this contemporary classic back to the stage, with a cast that features some of our country's best talent - Alegra Fulton, Damien Atkins, Graeme Cuthbertson, Aiden Devine and Susanna Fournier.

Geometry in Venice is on stage in Montreal January 31 - February 14. Visit segalcentre.org to get your tickets.

Out the Window

Liza Balkan's Out the Window, a documentary piece about the infamous beating death of Otto Vass, is based on court transcripts, interviews, and Liza's own experience as a witness to the event.

Early next year, in partnership with the Theatre Centre, we will travel to Montreal to workshop the first draft of the play with students at the National Theatre School before a public workshop in Toronto in early May. Stay tuned to our website for public presentation dates.

Out the Window is just one of the new projects we are working on this year. Throughout our 09/10 Season, we will be working with our largest ever team of Writers in Residence - five renowned and award-winning playwrights - to develop six exciting new projects.

Every year we invest significant resources in new play development through workshops, readings and residencies - providing artists with the tools to create and a place to explore.

This is where we need your help. This year, we are raising $30,000 towards the further development of these projects, to give this group of artists the time and support that they need.

Click here to learn more about the projects that your donation will support, and please consider getting involved and making a contribution. All money raised will go directly to the artists and the production costs associated with their project; so the more we raise, the more we can realize.

For more information on giving, please contact Crow's Theatre. Or click the button below to donate on-line.
