About the Position
Crow’s Theatre seeks an Accountant to join our team. This is a full-time salaried position, and a new role at Crow’s Theatre. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciling deferred revenue and subledger accounts.  This position will also assist with the annual year-end external audit.  We are looking for a skilled individual who will approach the position with integrity, attention to detail, and consistency.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Payroll:
  • Process the weekly and bi-weekly payrolls ensuring accuracy, timeliness, completeness and adherence to employment standards, union agreements and internal policies.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and submit all payroll related government and union remittances.
  • Responsible for the distribution of all pay statements, ROEs, T4s, T4As and forms as required.
  • Reconcile and maintain payroll expense and accrual GL accounts on a regular basis.
  • Maintain all payroll files and filing systems.
 
Accounts Payable:
  • Receive, process, verify, enter expense invoices, and complete payments.
  • Ensure accuracy of expenses posted to accounts and shows.
  • Pay vendors by scheduling and preparing payments, and resolving invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation.
  • Pay out of pocket expense claims by receiving and verifying expense reports and requests for petty cash advances.
  • Record credit card expenses and reconcile.
  • Submit GST/HST tax return to the Canada Revenue Agency on a quarterly basis
  • Record and reconcile prepaid expenses.
  • Verify vendor accounts by reconciling statements and related transactions.
 
Accounts Receivable & Cash:
  • Perform cash bank deposits; reconcile credit card deposits with POS and online sales.
  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting for Box office, Bar and Theatre Production settlements and reconcile.
  • Record and reconcile daily entries in accounting system to Theatre Manager subledger.
  • Record and reconcile deferred revenue entries.
 
Other
  • Maintain all other financial records in QuickBooks and prepare other reports as needed for program budgets.
  • Assist with annual external audit, providing required backup documentation and maintaining schedules.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Superior knowledge of QuickBooks Online including payroll module
  • A minimum of 3 years’ accounting experience
  • Previous experience working with CRMs would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience with CRA submissions, including HST and payroll remittance
  • Effective time management with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines, and prioritize with minimal direction
  • Strong judgement skills and absolute discretion with confidential and sensitive information
  • University degree or College Diploma in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration (specializing in accounting)
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in general ledger accounts reconciliation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Preference will be given to Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
 
COMPENSATION
This is a permanent full-time employment position with a salary commensurate with experience. The position includes participation in Crow’s extended health benefits package and pension plan. Standard 40 hours per week. Salary is $70,000 annually.
 
ON SITE REQUIREMENT
This position will require on-site work at least three days per week when the theatre is in full operation. Most accounting functions are digital, except cash bank deposits and physical cheque production. The candidate will require a car to deliver bank deposits.
