ABOUT CROW’S THEATRE

Crow’s Theatre has been a leading force in the Canadian theatre landscape, recognized for provocative and award-winning new theatre work that has toured nationally and internationally.

In January 2017, following the completion of a $12 million capital campaign, Crow’s opened the doors to its first permanent home, Streetcar Crowsnest. As the first performing arts facility of its kind in Toronto’s East End, Streetcar Crowsnest offers a dynamic spectrum of affordable contemporary theatre, all-ages arts events, wide-ranging community programming and partnerships.

Led by Artistic and General Director, Chris Abraham, and Executive Director, Sherrie Johnson, Streetcar Crowsnest houses multiple venues for programming and events: the Guloien Theatre; the Scotiabank Community Studio for performances, rehearsals and community activities; a stunning Lobby Bar; and its adjacent full-service restaurant Gare de L’est.
 

ABOUT THE POSITION

This posting represents a 16 month maternity-leave cover.

Crow’s Theatre seeks an energetic and motivated Producer to join our team. Our dream candidate will be a proactive team-player who can work flexibly within a creative environment. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and Artistic Director, this individual will be the primary liaison to the theatre’s coproducers, partners, guest companies and all applicable labour and industry associations.

Main duties and responsibilities will include administration, financial management and operations related to the theatre’s artistic production and programming, including managing all production, live and digital, related contracts, budgeting, reconciliation of expenses, production and rental settlements, touring arrangements, and the timely completion of all reports for funding agencies. The Producer shall be accountable, be the driving force, and demonstrate leadership in regard to production teams, production related timelines, deadlines and tasks, ensuring completion in a timely manner.
 
 
The following list outlines key responsibilities:


Administration & Operations:
1. Producer shall develop, together with Management, all production, co-production and touring budgets for any potential productions including but not limited to; theatre, film, web series, live and virtual events, play development, new media, and digital content.
2. Producer shall produce the Theatre’s productions.
3. Producer shall work with Management and the Artistic Programming and Events Departments in the creation and implementation of season schedules and critical paths for the Theatre’s Artistic Programming and Events.
4. In conjunction with Management, Producer shall prepare all relevant budgets for the Theatre’s annual operating grant applications to all three levels of government.
5. Producer shall work in conjunction with Management to prepare for seasonal planning for productions and artistic programming projects, HR needs (Internship programs, Production Related HR) major granting deadlines, openings, season launches, season announcement, including creation of critical paths and ensuring their completion in a timely manner.
6. Producer shall stay up to date on current labour agreements and best practices related to Theatre, Film, Television, Web series, Web services which may impact contracting and budgeting practices.
7. Producer will be available for key events in the season as needed, including but not limited to: Opening Nights, Preview Performances, Events, Annual Gala, and meetings.

Production & Programming:
1. Producer shall be the primary liaison to the Theatre’s co-producers and partners. Producer shall be responsible for all co-production financial reconciliations.
2. Producer shall supervise and/or execute the successful and timely negotiations of all artistic and production contract engagements, including but not limited to actors, directors, playwrights, designers, stage management and production personnel.
3. Producer shall be accountable, be the driving force, and demonstrate leadership with production teams, production related timelines, deadlines and tasks, ensuring completion in a timely manner.

Financial Management:
1. Producer shall lead the creation of programming seasonal budgets.
2. Producer shall be responsible for the weekly and monthly management of programming seasonal budgets. 3. Producer shall work with the Marketing Department on budgetary elements, and support the accurate tracking and final-actuals reporting
4. Producer shall be responsible for all financial aspects relating to the Programming and report on all financial aspects to the Executive Director and Artistic Director on a quarterly schedule or as needed.
These aspects shall include but not be limited to:
• creation and monthly updating of cash flow projections
• create and maintain accurate overall programming budgets
• all payroll related to production as per contracting
• liaise with bookkeeper on production related expenses and revenues
• ensure account coding for revenues and expenditures are executed correctly for programming related expenses and revenues
• accurate set-up and reconciliation of box office earnings for anchor programming and guest companies
• timely cheque issue and disbursement to contracted artists, persons, suppliers, and
• other payables
• accurate reconciliation of all petty cash related to programming
• completion of show settlements and box office reconciliation and coordination of FOH, BOH departments to ensure timely completion
  

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of 3+ years' experience in producing and/or production management
• Highly motivated and self-driven with a demonstrable record of productivity and aptitude
• Demonstrable familiarity and experience with applicable industry labour agreements
• 3+ years’ experience with production budgeting with production or season budgets of 300k or more
• Highly proficient in computer programs: Office 365 Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Planner, etc. Knowledge of Mac computers and systems an asset
• Ability to work well under pressure, independently or as part of a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• This position is full time, evenings and weekends required at times

 

COMPENSATION

 
This is a fixed term contract position with a salary commensurate with experience. Salary range: $47,500.00 - $55,000.00.
