Led by Artistic and General Director, Chris Abraham, and Executive Director, Sherrie Johnson, Crow’s Theatre is located at the corner of Dundas Street East and Carlaw Avenue in Toronto’s east end. Our home at Streetcar Crowsnest is comprised of four venues for cultural and community programming and events: the Guloien Theatre (200 seats); Studio Theatre (90); the Nada Ristich Studio Gallery (80); and the Lobby Bar. We also have a full-service restaurant on site that features 60 seats indoors and 75 on the outdoor patio. The facility features state-of-the-art technical and specialized theatrical equipment, full streaming and digital event capabilities, and artistic and administrative offices.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Theatre Technical Assistant position is an opportunity to experience, learn from and support multiple departments across the organization and gain hands-on experience working in coordination with the Technical Director. This position will be responsible for assisting in the planning and managing projects while being supported for success. This is a great introductory level experience for those considering a professional career in the arts. The candidate's hands on involvement in an array of activities within the company and the theatre venue will enable a very productive mentorship experience for their future in technical production. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production and event technical support 
Onsite supervisor for events 
Communication with artists, equipment vendors, and other collaborators
Designing and scheduling crew calls based on technical needs and budget 
Attending production meetings and taking minutes 
Assist season planning with research and logistics support 
Planning, budgeting, sourcing and creation of various lighting, set and sound needs, as well as the documentation to support this work. 
Vendor relations 
Facility maintenance 
Assist with budget planning
Other related special services necessary for events or production 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Canada Summer jobs requires the candidate be 15-30 years of age and a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee

Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a Theatre Production department of a college or university and/or
Past experience in a traditional theatre environment
Willing to work hard and get dirty in a fast-paced environment 

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time 8-week contract position partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs that pays an hourly rate of $20/hour.
