Marie Farsi welcomed as Associate Artistic Director

Oct 12, 2018

Artistic Director Chris Abraham is thrilled to announce the appointment of Marie Farsi as the Associate Artistic Director of Crow's Theatre for the 2018-19 Season.

Marie is a theatre director, dramaturg and producer, who has trained and worked across Canada and internationally. Her professional experience is varied, from staging classical texts, new Canadian plays, sketch comedy and theatre for young audiences, to developing new works with writers and devising contemporary puppetry. She's the founder and the Co-Artistic Director of the formal experimental company Babelle Theatre in Vancouver. Her work with Babelle has been described as trippy, intelligent and wildly inventive. Recently, she co-created This, Here at Vancouver’s Cultch; and Surveil (with the comedy duo Hip.Bang!) that toured to sold-out houses in Edmonton and won the Risk Award at the Vancouver Fringe.

“Marie is a visionary theatre maker, director and leader who for the past several years, has been pursuing a unique practice in Vancouver” says Abraham. “I’m very excited to have her join us at Crow’s this season.  Marie has made a definitive mark in her west coast community, and I look forward to her doing the same here in Toronto.”

"It is a true privilege to be working with Chris" says Farsi. “Though I have been gaining some insight around Chris’ directorial practice, his work as an Artistic Director is much less known to me. In every respect, Chris embodies the values that I seek to foster in myself and in my work. I am so thrilled to join the team, and contribute to one of the busiest and most forward-thinking theatre companies in the country."

Farsi will be working closely with Abraham on a variety of projects, including The Assembly and Boy in the Moon. She will play a key role in new play and artistic development within the company.

Crow’s Theatre and Marie Farsi would like to thank the generous support of the BC Arts Council and Canada Council for making this position possible.
