Sweet are the uses of adversity, Which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, Wears yet a precious jewel in his head - As You Like It, William Shakespeare
The title of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It holds a double meaning that famously teases, this is a play to please all tastes. But is that possible?
In the world premiere of this radical retelling, acclaimed Indigenous creator and cultural provocateur Cliff Cardinal delights in black humour, difficult subject matter, and raw emotions.
“It is anarchic and tender and seething and raw. And important for us now. – Istvan Reviews
“Unlike any other production of the play, past or future. NNNN” – Now Magazine
Born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Cardinal (Stitch, Huff, and Cliff Cardinal’s CBC Special) studied playwriting at the National Theatre School of Canada and is an associate artist at VideoCabaret, where he develops his new work.
Cast will be announced at each performance.
At Crow's Theatre we aim to be surprising, unpredictable, and urgent. While we hope to avoid 'spoilers' when promoting our productions, some of our shows deal with war and its associated violence, colonization, adult language, sexual violence, gun violence, mass murder, and suicide.
We understand that there is subject nature which may cause distress or trigger challenging emotions for some of our audience members. If there are certain themes that you would find particularly disturbing, please speak to someone in patron's serices before entering the theatre, or contact the box office via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 647.341.7390 ext. 1010.
We are here to assist you.
