CROW’S THEATRE AND GARE DE L’EST ANNOUNCE DINNER AND A SHOW.
A SOCIAL EXPERIENCE PAIRING ONE-OF-A-KIND MEALS FROM THE EAST END BRASSERIE WITH A VIRTUAL SALON FOR NEWLY COMMISSIONED WORKS.
Crow’s Theatre & French Brasserie Gare de l’Est join forces to launch a unique dine-at-home experience this spring; Dinner and a Show will deliver a specially conceived meal for two to your home, followed by an exclusive streaming, behind-the-scenes look at new works commissioned by Crow’s Theatre. Dinner and a Show is the city’s first online theatrical experience that pairs dinner, and sommelier-selected wine with a unique social experience designed to bring the experience of a night out into your home.
Crow’s Theatre, which opened its doors four years ago in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood, has quickly become one of the city’s favourite night-out experiences. It is Toronto’s only theatre with an on-site restaurant, pairing excellent dinners at Gare de l’Est with acclaimed shows like Stars: Together, The Wedding Party, Julius Caesar, and The Flick.
Crow’s Theatre’s Artistic and Executive Directors, Chris Abraham and Sherrie Johnson, approached Gare de L’Est’s founders Erik Joyal and John Sinopoli with the idea for Dinner and a Show, having been inspired by Erik and John’s efforts to support the restaurant industry through savehospitality.ca.
Dinner and a Show begins with home delivery of a curated three-course meal designed by Gare de l’Est head chef, John Sinopoli. As audience members put the finishing touches on their meal to the sounds of our artist-created playlist, Crow’s Theatre will be busy behind the virtual curtain, preparing a live-to-air online experience. After dinner, pour a glass of wine, and join the rest of the audience for an exclusive evening in with Crow’s Theatre.

The devil has come to town, but don’t worry – all he wants to do is stage a magic show. ‘M’ is a musical exploration of one of the 20th century’s greatest – and strangest – novels. A new adaptation of the classic novel Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, M is created by one of the stars of Crow’s hit production of Ghost Quartet, Hailey Gillis, Soulpepper alumnae Mikaela Davies, and playwright/novelist Polly Phokeev. For Dinner and a Show, the creative team will invite you into the world they are bringing to life in their new musical creation.
Chew: A Gastronomical Musical Odyssey commissioned by Crow’s Theatre & Project Humanity Cast for Dinner and a Show: TBC
Creative Team: Andrew Kushnir, Anika Johnson, Sarah Segal-Lazar.
As one competitor puts it: “It’s like a standing-still parade. We just happen to be eating food.” Over the course of several years, Montreal playwright Sarah Segal-Lazar interviewed dozens of competitive eaters in Canada and the States to figure out what drives them to stretch their stomachs beyond comprehension. Inspired by London Road and A Chorus Line, co-creators Segal-Lazar, Anika Johnson and Andrew Kushnir have discovered the ideal container for the excesses of the sport: a musical. Chew takes documentary theatre to new places, and competitive eating to new limits. Whether it’s tucking away tamales in Texas or pulverising pretzels in Providence, the reasons we do unreasonable things can be most surprising of all.
Cost: $150 plus HST (including delivery)
