A woman dressed in a red and gold embroidered robe with a blue veil stands in front of a collection of Virgin Mary statues and candles. She wears a golden halo-style headpiece and gazes directly at the viewer with a calm expression. Her hands are positioned in a gesture reminiscent of classical religious iconography, with one palm open and the other raised in a gentle motion. The background is softly lit with a warm gradient, enhancing the devotional setting.

Four women emerge from the desert, each bearing the same name: Mary. As history folds in on itself, they raise their voices in a story of faith, sacrifice, and rebellion.

Blending ancient scripture with her trademark incisive, contemporary wit, Erin Shields (Here We Are, Paradise Lost, If We Were Birds) reclaims the stories of four women who stood at the gates of revolution—only to be sidelined by history.

A visceral and lyrical reimagining of the gospels’ most enduring icons, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary interrogates what happens when four women who bore witness to miracles are finally allowed to speak.
